3rd Edition
Description:
External beam therapy is a widely used form of radiotherapy that administers ionizing radiation directly to the tumor site, employing high-energy x-rays, gamma rays, or electron beams. This essential book, now in its third edition, provides a comprehensive and practical resource for professionals involved in external beam radiotherapy planning and delivery, incorporating the latest technological advancements.
The initial chapters offer a thorough understanding of the fundamental principles of clinical radiotherapy. Subsequently, each chapter focuses on a specific tumor site commonly treated with radiotherapy, encompassing indications, treatment approaches, and planning considerations. The final chapter emphasizes the critical aspect of quality assurance in radiotherapy delivery.
This updated edition reflects the rapid advancements in the field, presenting detailed information on intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), and proton therapy.
Authored by subject matter experts, External Beam Therapy serves as an invaluable companion for professionals and trainees in medical physics, therapeutic radiology, clinical oncology, and radiation oncology.
About The Series:
Radiotherapy remains a primary non-surgical treatment approach for managing malignant diseases. It applies the principles of applied physics, radiobiology, and tumor biology to clinical practice. Each volume in this series begins with an overview of the basic principles of ionizing radiation use and then explores specific treatment sites. These practical handbooks are designed for physicians undergoing training or practicing in radiotherapy, as well as medical physicists, dosimetrists, radiographers, and senior nurses.
Review:
"External Beam Therapy serves as an indispensable and practical companion to professionals and trainees in the fields of medical physics, therapeutic radiology, and clinical or radiation oncology. Authored by experts in their respective fields, this book provides essential guidance for external beam radiotherapy." -- Anticancer Research
